The Alaska 275 is good all weather serious boat that can be set up as a commuter, sturdy family cruiser, or serious sport fisher. Comfortable accommodations for weekends or even weeks of vacation and fishing.

Have a look at our Build Logs section for a comprehensive gallery of build photos of this boat kit.

A design by Rick Welin ( ) this welded aluminum multipurpose cabin cruiser was developed through conversation with an Alaskan customer who needs to commute 80 miles to the nearest store, by water, in all weather, and all seasons in Alaska!

She's 27.5' LOD 10' BEAM with a large chine flat that runs all the way fwd for knocking down spray. The hull is a moderate vee at about 17 degrees deadrise at the stern.

The bottom plating is 1/4" and the topsides 3/16" ,so she will be tough all over. . ... She is based on local pacific northwest crew boats that have evolved over decades for the local logging industry, so there's no experimental stuff .... Fast and tough.

The engine compartment is set up for a Volvo KAD 44Duo Prop diesel (290 hp) for the ultimate in power and dependability. The reverse sloping " pacific north west" windscreen stays drier and reduces glare.

The conical bow section allows the topside plating to flare out more in the bow than traditional bow shapes for a safer ride and to further knock down spray.

Just a few facts: She’s got twin 250 four stroke yamaha’s. The boat runs 51 mph at wot and cruises at 30mph at only 3600rpm.
I have to say I have never driven a more responsive boat in this size
range. I made full speed 50mph turns today on a flat lake with zero slip
or cavitation. thanks again for the great design.

I can tell you that I was very impressed along with the Buyer when we Sea trialed it last Sat. Very stable boat, no spray over the bow when we throttled down into commercial boat waves and plenty of power with the Volvo D6. We could still hold plane at 15- 16knots due to the hull design and larger trim tabs. Our top end speed with 3-4 fuel, full water and 2 of us big guys was 28-29knots in choppy conditions. I suspect you could achieve higher with differently trimmed props but was plenty fast for my customer. She tracked well with the full length chines and the steering was very responsive with no cavitation or Stern walk when banking hard turns. Overall the boat felt really solid and the visibility from the Cockpit helm station is a plus for fishing and maneuvering around marinas etc.

I owned a Lifetimer 2700 Discovery for 12 years and liked the performance of this boat much better.
